JUSTICE FOR ROBERT DARBY
Tim Darby on Terrie Beales
I HAVE all the proof needed that Terrie Beales is up to her neck in it, by covering up my brother’s murder and making sure Power got away with it. She is as guilty as Power for the terrible turn of events and she is one of the main reasons why Moore is serving a life sentence. She told Power to sort my brother out and he went on and killed him straight away.

Her sister Karen Holeyman was one of the last people to see my brother alive. He had been harassing her to get a message to Power. Beales hid this from police. In fact, she treated police with total contempt and took them for idiots. She lied to them about everything and was simply allowed to get away with it. With Power, she created a story that Power didn’t have a problem with my brother, which is totally false and ridiculous.

She assisted him in every way while he was on the run and by holding back crucial evidence.

And she worked hand in hand with Power during the trial to make Moore look bad – even going as far as to try and get Moore remanded – and she ultimately sent him to his doom.

In the 16-plus years since Robert died, Beales has steadfastly refused to help Police or the Moore family, who approached her about assisting in an effort to have Moore’s sentence reduced by three years, to 15 years. The bare-faced arrogance that runs through this girl is just validation for me that she knows everything there is to know about what happened to my brother and has consciously and actively assisted Power in escaping justice.

Beales made 50 (FIFTY!) phone calls on the day of my brother’s stabbing. Clearly a gossip, she had two phone numbers registered to her but only gave the police one of them.

There is a wealth of evidence indicating Robert was hell bent on finding Power and determined enough that he was driving other people mad for Power in an increasing desperate attempt to contact him. He went to Adele Rayner’s place of work, was in and out of Hobnobs, and had other people calling Power on his behalf.

Power said in court that the 11:47 phone call he received from Beales was a declaration of her love for him and that she was simply passing on a message from the night before. He totally downplayed the significance of the call, saying there were no problems, no threats. In her (taped) phone conversation with Moore’s sister in September 2018, Beales said that the night before my brother was stabbed, he had gone into her bar and she had to leave. If he wasn’t in there causing any problems, why did she have to leave her own bar and let her staff “deal with the problem”?

Even after Power was caught in Spain and extradited back to the UK in April 2013, Beales still refused to provide any assistance to the police but subsequently made an (unused) statement to Power’s solicitor to assist Power’s defence. What did she say that made Power’s defence team decide not to use it at trial?

After eight years of refusing to make a statement for police, Beale then suddenly called them during the trial to say she was being intimidated in her bar, allegedly by friends of Moore. I assume Power and Beale were trying to make Moore look a bully and get him remanded. DI Andy Jones, the Senior Investigating Officer (SIO), actually visited Beales in her bar during the course of the trial but she declined his offer of police protection and told him she did not wish to take the matter any further.

Beales said that she was waiting to be called to give evidence and that Power’s defence decided not to call her. She said she didn’t want to go to court and have people “ripping the arse out of her and being horrible and trying to insinuate that she would be lying”. What would give her this impression, if she had just gone there to tell the truth? I understood from associates of Power and Robert that the reason Beales did not want to give evidence is because she wouldn’t lie under oath. If this was the case, there is no way Power’s QC could put her in the box to be cross-examined, because if she was found to be lying or made a mistake while giving evidence, Power would surely be found guilty.

In court, Power said to David Howker QC (Moore’s barrister): ‘I’ll tell you what I will suggest . . . I haven’t spoken to my counsel about it, but get Terrie Beales here and then you can ask her yourself, because I can’t do no more than I’ve done because, believe you me, I am telling the truth with this”. The mocking manner in which this comment was delivered came from a defendant who knew that his girlfriend would not be coming to court at all – he and his counsel had already decided on this. Moore was now at a major disadvantage. Power had aligned his evidence throughout the trial, as pointed out by prosecution barrister Simon Dennison QC.

Had police known about Robert being at Hobnobs on the morning of the incident and been able to interview Karen Holeyman about what had happened there, Moore could not have been branded a liar by judge and jury. The truth about the nature of Beales’ call to Power that caused such an angry reaction and loss of control would have been established beyond all doubt.

Power admitted that Beale had visited him on more than one occasion in Spain and I found that on August 29, 2005 – just four days after the incident – she started texting messages to a Spanish mobile number, and was then called back. More proof that the two of them kept in touch.

Listening to the 38-minute taped phone conversation between Moore’s sister and Beales, which took place 13 years after the incident, there is no doubt that Beales still has Power’s best interests very much at heart. She is evasive and controlled but, remarkably, does not offer Power any defence or make any comment about him being innocent. Presumably, because she knows he is guilty.

In the same call, she was fully informed as to what had happened at the scene, saying it was a matter of self-defence and provided details of my brother pulling out a knife . . . but would not say how she came to have this information. She was even flippant enough to offer her opinion, saying it wasn’t premeditated. Why did she not give this information to police?

She agreed with Moore’s sister that an innocent man shouldn’t be doing a life sentence for a crime he didn’t commit but continues to offer no assistance to the man that is doing the sentence.

Kirstie Moore took the advice of Lady Justice Sharp, who said in the Appeal court that the next time information was obtained from witnesses it should be recorded. So Moore’s sister taped the pre-arranged phone conversation with Beales, which lasted 38 minutes. During the conversation, I noted the following points:

1. She NEVER denied Power killed my brother.

2. Not once does she say Moore is guilty.

3. She admits “it’s not right” that Moore is doing a life sentence.

4. “Rob was in there out of his nut driving everyone mad”. Beale admits that Robert was in her bar looking for Power over money he owed him, and that he asked for Power’s number.

5. Disputes the police’s fabricated ‘Love Triangle’ angle and says that Maggie (Saunders) was a regular at her bar and was seeing Robert. She went as far as to add: “What did she see in him?”.

6. She tried to diminish her responsibility by suggesting other people should come forward to assist Moore instead of her. She suggests Moore’s sister contact Paul Hunt and Allen Mahoney (Power’s good friend).

7. She confirmed that Hunt had seen everything and the notion that he was asleep was not true. “That’s absolute bollocks, we all know that,” she said.

8. She mentioned in a phone conversation with Alan Mahoney that if Power knew they were talking to Kirstie Moore, Power would “go like a lunatic”. She added: “I know Martin is going to find out and if he does, he would flip”.

9. She totally agreed that it’s wrong that Moore is serving a life sentence for something he has not done.

10. She did actually end the call with Kirstie by offering to speak to Moore’s solicitor, Mark Bowen – she told Moore’s sister to get him to phone her with a view to making an appointment where she would hopefully give a signed statement. But, paranoid that Power might find out and possibly getting into trouble with police for previously withholding evidence, she changed her mind. She later texted Kirstie Moore to withdraw her help and co-operation. This happened after she had spoken to Adele Rayner, her friend and former employee.
